
Machining is a production method used to process metal and other materials. It is generally used to shape and process metal parts and produces metal chips. Machining includes various sub-processes and typically covers operations such as turning, milling, drilling and grinding.


In turning, a material is rotated on a lathe on a rotating spindle, allowing a cutting tool to shape the material. This method is generally used to produce cylindrical parts.
Milling involves a rotating cutting tool moving over a workpiece fixed on a bed to create the desired shape. This method is widely used to produce flat surfaces, grooves and complex shapes.
Drilling is used to open holes in a material. In drilling, holes are opened in the material, usually using a rotating drill bit.
Grinding is used to smooth, polish or shape the surface of a material within a certain tolerance. Grinding plays an important role in producing precision parts and improving surface quality.
